Laken Riley was a 22-year former UGA nursing student whose body was found on campus after her friends reported her missing on the morning of Feb. 22, 2024. Late last year, Jose Ibarra, a 26-year-old undocumented immigrant from Venezuela, was convicted of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated battery, aggravated assault, false imprisonment, kidnapping, hindering a 911 call and concealing the death of another in connection to Riley’s death.
