Lamar Reviews - "Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu" (Airdate 5/29/2026)

Personally, I could not have been more excited
when I first heard that this movie was coming out.
The big question you may have is, “Is this a movie
for me if I’m not a Star Wars fan?” Yes, this is part
of the Star Wars universe, but it is a standalone
movie with connections to Star Wars, which would
be better understood if you have watched The
Mandalorian on Disney+. If you are a Star Wars
fan but have not watched The Mandalorian, like
my wife Carla, you should still able to piece it
together. She did. If you have no idea about either
one, this might not be your best bet.
I became a fan of the Mandalorian watching it on
TV. The Disney+ channel released The
Mandalorian late in 2019, it ran for 3 seasons until
spring of 2023. It was an action-adventure series,
written by Jon Favreau, that was part of the Star
Wars Universe. The Mandalorian is considered a
space Western because it uses the theme of the
lawless frontier with bad guys and good guys
along with the lone figure of justice that stands up

for the good against the bad. The Mandalorian is a
bounty hunter that goes out to catch, but most
times winds up killing the bad guy.
The Mandalorian has adopted Grogu, or Baby
Yoda, to most people. This movie is an extension
of the TV series.
The movie is 2 hours 12 minutes, Rated-PG-13 for
sci-fi violence and action.
Pedro Pascal plays the Mandalorian, Sigourney
Weaver plays Colonel Ward of the Rebellion,
Martin Scorsese is the voice of the food truck
operator and is hilarious.
If you are wondering if Pedro Pascal is always in
the Mandalorian suit, the answer would be no. He
is always the voice, and he is in the suit when he
takes the helmet off, but most of the time he’s off
doing something else like filming a movie.
Brenden Wayne, grandson of John Wayne, is in
the suit until the big action scenes, and then it is
stuntman Lateef Crowder. The real challenge is
finding a reason to take the helmet off since his
sworn oath is to never take it off.

The movie opens with a great action scene right
off the bat! The storyline is simple, Din Djarin, The
Mandalorian’s actual name, takes the job to locate
and rescue Rotta the Hutt, son of Jaba. In
exchange, his twin Hunt uncles will provide
important information. Of course, everything
spirals out of control which leads to more action
scenes. Every moment of calm is just a lead up to
another action scene. There is no “the fate of all
humanity depends on this”. No complicated hard
to keep up with storylines, just fun action!
For all the Grogu fans, does Grogu get the chance
to save the day? Yes, he does, and of course, in
the cutest way possible.
A lot of people are critical because it doesn’t
advance the legacy of the Star Wars franchise. I
don’t think it was trying to. I think the intention was
to entertain an audience that wanted more than 3
seasons of adventures with these two characters.
It delivered exactly that!
My Score: A strong solid 5 Cold Budweisers
